Thank you for taking the time to visit my portfolio site to learn about me. I
am a published travel writer, PR advisor, a senior political editor (and editor of the Caucasus Region) at Asfar – Middle Eastern Journal, a political analyst, and graduate of Aberystwyth University and the University of
Exeter. As a writer who has a penchant for all things political (with a major focus on the Middle East & Imperialism), I like to combine my travel journalism expertise with my real-world
knowledge of the world in which we live. This, to me anyway, is a fascinating combination that conjures up unrivalled images and makes for stories that are few and far between.
About the Site:
Travelling Politico is all about the inter-connectivity between the
destinations that we travel to (both luxury and basic) and the politics that affects our opinions of the place. This site aims to review destinations, hotels, tour operators like any other
but with an added twist – I also assess the politics in the destinations; this could come in the form of micro-political movements which enhance our experience in a city, or the national
politics which affects our whole trip. My aim is to shed a new light on travel – to make readers think beyond the superficial façade of somewhere that they visit for enjoyment – to gain a true
understand of how the destination really “ticks”.
Throughout my 6 years in the travel writing trade I have worked with clients
all across the world, both in my capacity as a journalist and a PR advisor, including:
- Fodor’s Travel (Tangier & Mediterranean Coast chapter – 2015 Morocco guide)
- National Geographic Traveller (Cover Story – Meteora monasteries)
- easyJet Traveller (Iceland expert)
- Garuda Indonesia’s Colours magazine (Muscat feature)
- Italia! magazine (Bergamo feature)
- Air Arabia’s Al Nawras magazine (Marrakesh and Tangier features)
- Gulf Air’s Gulf Air magazine (Lyon and Marrakesh features)
- City A.M. newspaper (Scilly Isles feature)
- Norwegian Air Shuttle (St Croix destination guide)
- Marriott Hotels
- Rough Guides
- … And many more…
Press Trips & Commissions:
I have been invited on many press trips, both by tourist boards and travel
companies, and I would be more than happy to consider any press trip invitations, both to cover on my website and in any publications that I may be working with. I am also more than happy, and indeed
willing, to consider any opportunities to contribute to any publications that may be offered my way.
Please do not hesitate to contact me either through this site, via
Twitter, Facebook, or email with any comments or requests – I love to talk to new people and expand my portfolio. And I always reply!
